March 12th

Day 145, "Every picture has a story"
Yesterday I made myself a second pot of FP.  I only drank a cup so I put what was left in this jar.  The jar (not this one but a similar one) has the story for the day.  The year is 1962 and the month is early August.  We are harvesting the field west of the farm.  The wheat crop is OK this year.  Nothing to brag about but then nothing to complain about either.  As if complaining would help!  There was a nice breeze from the west as the morning sun peeked over the eastern horizon so there was little or no dew.  That meant that we could get a full day of harvesting in and maybe finish the field of wheat.  We were storing the wheat in the middle steel bin at the farm.  Dad had set up that darn elevator that was mostly used for hay as the loading for the bin.  We had the power takeoff on the Ford tractor hooked up to the elevator.  NO super iconic grain elevator as we had used so often in the past with that one cylinder motor that had such a sweet sound.  I am pretty sure that Dad had some how managed to send that to salvage which was a sad story.  Anyway the connection to that harvest day and this picture is this.  On the farm, when we were working harvest, we had 5 meals.  There was breakfast, a mid morning snack, dinner at noon, a mid afternoon snack and supper at night.  I am not sure we worked hard enough to deserve 5 meals but Mom served them.  For the mid morning and mid afternoon Mom would drive them to the harvest field in our car.  We would then shut down the combine and tractor while we sat for 15-20 minutes and snacked.  Mom would always bring a quart jar of coffee!  Get the connection here to the picture?  I never could figure out WHY Dad wanted HOT coffee on a hot day but that is what he had.  I remember tasting it more than once and trust me it was not good in my mind back then.  I am sure it was boiled coffee that Mom made on the stove.  "For sure" it was an upgrade from the instant Folgers Dad and Mom enjoyed later in life.  Anyway the coffe in the pint jar reminded me of "the good old days".

My focus today is our 1:30 match.  I am trying to drink water this morning as the temp at 1:30 is supposed to be mid 80s.  We will see what is happening.  For the 4th match this season I am on court #2 with Charlie.

I started a new book this morning.  Once again one of those books that has NO intelligence connected to it but kind of fun to read.

My FP was finished long ago so will sign off.
