Grandma and Grandpa Lee

I had never seen the top picture of them but I would say they were a handsome couple young and old.  I can still hear Grandpa's laugh--hardy to say the least.
Surgery went well yesterday.  My arm is sore today and I would guess that typing is not so good for it so this will be  short today.
Life is again good as I was able to start the day wth FP.  Enough for the arm.

How about that!!!

How about that, the guitar is wonderful.  The skill, the effort, the patience etc is beyond the curve of woodworkers!!
It is 5:20 PM and NOT the time for FP!!!
I am thinking I need to learn to play well and then neighbor John in Naples and I can do a concert as he has learned to plan the key board!!  It will take me some time, I am not the fast learner that John is.

More miles behind us!!

We are in PeachTree City GA at Terry's daughter Kim's house.  Will be here for 2 or 3 nights.
We had a great campsite last night.  A National Forest with showers, flush bathrooms and VERY nice sites.  We had a great site over looking the lake and it had electricity which we needed as our fish needs to stay frozen until Naples!
Our trip meter this time turned over 1500 miles and I am guessing we have about 700 left.  On our way to Naples we will stop and see Sam in college.
I may be pushing things a bit but next Wednesday I will have surgery at 7:00 AM and then have a visit with a neurologist at 1:00 PM.  I will have to ask the Dr at 7:00 if I will be ready have an appt at 1:00!  That darn left leg is still kind of numb from some nerve (can't spell it) which starts in the back and goes around to the leg.  Got to get it fixed for tennis.  I am guessing that it will start to heal itself after we get out of the car for more than 48 hours.  Since we left Naples towards the end of May we have put on more then 20,000 miles in about 15 weeks of driving, I think I am getting a bit road worn to put it mildly.
Josh just came home here so it is enough for now.  We do get to set foot in a school tonight as Tori has a concert which Terry will really really enjoy!

Monday, October 21

After a lot of good food, much interesting conversation and 150 retake of old pictures we will be on our way to our 51st NP today.
Had salmon and Halibut last night made on the George Forman grill and Terry thought it was the best salmon she had ever had.  The halibut was great too but I took the skin off before it went on the grill while the salmon skin stayed on for the first 3 1/2 minutes and the difference was NO difference in taste but the halibut was a bit dry.  Next time the skin stays on for part of the time!
My morning started great this morning as I did not start with Terry's and Helen's 1/2 caf coffee!!!  It was FP from the get-go this morning and it was great!
We will have to see if the fog lifts before we hit the road about 10 or so.
I smell bacon and the FP is long gone.

In Holiday Island AR

sunrise in Archie MO

I did not take my diamondback out of the case!

We liked the sign!
We arrived at Helen's Sunday about 12:30.  One bowl of potato salad is down so there is one to go.  Helen made a wonderful meal last night and it is her fault that Terry and I ate too too much.  BUT life is good when you have good food, good wine, good beer and good conversation.
We will hang out here today and then head south to Hot Springs NP tomorrow.
Yesterday morning in Archie MO it was 39 and the side tent felt like we had rain over night as the dew was so wet and heavy.  I left my FP pot in St. Paul so I walked 1/8 of a mile to a small store for coffee.  What can I say other than to mention that I so missed my FP and for $1.29 I got a large cup of this brown colored drink.  This morning I turned Helen's coffee pot on and the coffee is good but that darn pot chatted with me for at least 15 minutes.  I think I did something wrong.  Helen will have to see when she gets up.
The fall colors were spectacular on our drive down I35.
Wow, Helen just saved the day.  I was drinking her decaf but there is FP so I will be fine in about 10 minutes!!!
Enough for now.  Helen is up and already doing the crossword puzzle so enough for the blog AND the FP is coming.

Yes, it is done and on to the south!!!

We have had the following in the last several days.
lunch for 6
lunch for 4
lunch for 4
dinner for 6
dinner for 6
lunch out for 4
On our way back from our last trip Terry did the figuring and decided we needed to have some people over.  I did not believe we could do it all but she planned, called and arranged to make it happen.   AMEN!!
After serving 14 pounds of Alaska fish and of course doing ALL the dishes I think we are ready to get serious about packing.  Of course in between those meals we have done 6 dr appt, gotten the tires rotated, cleaned out the car, finished ALL the Christmas presents (I finished making some and Terry has them all wrapped) and this morning I have an oil change scheduled.  It is conveniently scheduled across the street from a coffee shop so it will be drop the car off and then walk over for a FP!!
Last Sunday when we visited Cynthia and Mike it looked like Wallace (dog) was on his last days.  We looked into putting him down BUT Cynthia said he got new energy so for a while he is still with us.  Wallace came to Niles Ave as a tiny ball of fur in October of 2004.  He has been/is the smartest and best dog we have had.  Here is hoping the he has many days left.

Wallace, badly in need of a haircut and Faustina in the fall of 2008
Time to get to the Dr. office and then to the coffee shop, no I mean the oil change!

October 11, 2014--Saturday

No picture and not much of a story.  We actually did some work around here today.  I have a bit of work left in my wood shop for Christmas presents so spent some time there.  I used the air compressor to get much dirt out of the engine of the car and out of the camper.  After that it was oil the hinges etc.
I washed the car yesterday and my back flared up---no no no I said but it is back to an ache and some numbness in my left thigh.  A dr appt Monday may give me some answers.  Perhaps the best that will come is a paper that says I need some PT when we return to Naples.
My phone told me, actually did you know that phones can talk???, that the temp this morning was down to 32.  The baseball field at a local school looked like snow covered when I drove past it at 7 AM.  Actually it was only frost.  FALL, it is here for sure.
Our weather has been great really.  Sunny and mid 50's so one should not complain.
We have entertained three times this week and have a couple coming over tomorrow for lunch.  On Monday we meet Al and Deb and that has to be it.  Well my men's group will be here on Wednesday evening and that will be fish again but that is IT.  We do need to spend time sorting, packing and getting ready for the trip south.  I am thinking that the bikes we have carted ALL over the states and Canada will find a permanent home in Naples this year.  We only have several bikes here so ride--but no bikes in the van on trips any more.
Terry has all the Christmas presents wrapped so that is wonderful. She does a great job and we have things figured out how to get things to places so I would say we are ahead of the game on Christmas things.
I have a dr appt Monday, Terry has one on Tuesday and I think that should be it for MN.  Maybe some in FL but those appt have to be cut down or stopped as it is tiring to drive, sit and wait and then find out all is OK.
That is all, it is time to see if my back pain allows me to sleep tonight.

The 5th day in one place! Just a habit I guess

No picture as I figured that pictures of blood draws, Dr appt and tire rotation may not interest people much.
Our mode now is get things done, entertain people we haven't seen for some time and then head south for warm weather and more Dr. appt.  Least I mislead myself and think we were sick and crippled people when I reread this in 10 years, that is not true.  We get our annual physicals out of the way when we are in MN so are doing that now.  After our trip we needed to rotate the tires on the van and next is another oil change.  There are several people in MN that we wanted to connect with so that means lunch here today, lunch here tomorrow, lunch here next Sunday, dinner here last Sunday and there are two more to schedule.
I purchased a cable to connect our computer to our TV.  You never know when someone may want to watch the powerpoint of the "making of the guitar"!  I will post pictures some time but pictures do not do it justice just as when one is traveling pictures are worth a thousands words but are worthless in comparison to seeing.
I am making great progress on the wood things for Christmas.  As I finish them Terry wraps them and then they are ready to go.  I am hoping to finish part one of them this week and then finish part two early next week.  Small items that are not even perfect but I am hoping that they will be used for years to come by the grandchildren.  Of course one never knows.  When you put yourself into something and then give it away it my be treasured, it may be lost, it may be forgotten or it may be used to gauge the timing for another dusting in the room!  But a person can only do their thing and then sit back and allow others to do theirs.
No it is time to start the day.  Friends will be over about 11:30.
One last thought, "I am blessed to be alive and doing what I am doing"  AND, dang, that FP is great!!!!

80 days later, 10,948 miles later (12,448 with the ferry ride) we are in St. Paul again (I have not paid our gas bill yet!!!!!)

Because Honda trip meter only goes to 4 digits you need to add 10,000 to make 10,948 miles and 19.2 MPG

#72 and the last

It is actually nice to be grounded for a couple of weeks.  We arrived in MN yesterday about 6:30 PM and have two weeks to get ready to depart for Naples.  There is clean up, unpacking and packing again, Dr. appt. fall work, people visits and the list is long BUT it is good.
Our July 15-October 2 trip was a TRIP OF A LIFE TIME and most likely will never be repeated in any way.  Not in any dreams did I think I would do such a thing and enjoy life so much.  The miles, the landscape, the people--all was wonderful.  Now my back is another thing, it needs rest!!!!
We finished our 72nd state park visit as well and it was good.  We drove into Little Falls MN about 5:00 PM yesterday for our last park.  The office was locked so we did a little dance in celebration of visiting all 72 MN parks.  About the time we finished a ranger came and heard our story.  He was good enough to open the office and stamp our book to prove 72 was done!!!  He said he has worked for the parks 16 years and never had he had the honor of stamping #72.  Of course many people have done it, it is just that he had never had the last one.  We visited our first in May of 2012 so 2 years and 5+ months later we are finished.
We had a great last few days of our trip.  We spent the last 2 nights in Jamestown ND with brother Dave and his wife Marlys.  It was a super time.  We were able to get many pictures for the power point I promised to do in July for their 50th wedding anniversary.  I need more picture so relatives need to send them!!!  AND Dave gave me the guitar he made for me.  After looking at it I decided that I am NOT a woodworker as his skill, his detail and his finish work is beyond description.
It is 3:40 PM so no FP but this morning---oh so good!!

The final word--NO antelope and NO buffalo in the states but we do have pronghorn and bison!

a pronghorn in North Dakota
This is not an antelope as there are no known antelope in North America.  This is a pronghorn and there are many in ND, SD and WY.  We saw herds of them as we drove through those states.
I THINK I have learned to tune the guitar with an electronic tuner and then play ONE cord!!  Please don't call me Johnny yet, perhaps after a bit!
We have spent the day on computers etc.  We head home tomorrow and will take in the last of our 72 Minnesota State Parks.  A long drive, 410 miles but we should be able to pull into St. Paul by 5:30 or so.

October 1--Week 12--Day 79

Honda needs to change!!!!!!!
That is our trip meter 300 miles ago.  In the next tenth of a mile it went to 0.  Honda needs to change their trip meter and add another digit.
We are in Jamestown ND with brother Dave and Marlys.  Will stay for the day and head to St. Paul tomorrow.
We watched the final version of the guitar power point and then the guitar was mine!!!!!!!!!!  Now I have to learn now.  I got a start last night as we dressed for dinner I wore black Johnny Cash pants.  That is a start, right??
Marlys has breakfast ready so time to go.  No FP this AM.
