A kind of fall weather yesterday but today we warm up

Day 49, "Every picture has a story"

This picture is about the last couple of days and then the days going forward.  Here are the temporary steps going up stairs as Terry and I work to get new ones ready to install.  But wait, the walls and ceiling of the stairway need to be painted first😐.  It is tradition, every project HAS to include at least a few more steps than one planned for.  Over the last few days Terry and I have put a sealer on the maple treads and then yesterday we put two coats of clear finish on them.  I can, for SURE, tell you that each treads weigh 12 pounds and there are 16 of them.  These darn houses with 9 foot ceilings.  They are hard to keep up and a LOT of work.  I tell myself and others say this house has a lot of character and I would also say this character may go crazy soon!!!   After we finished putting the last clear coat on yesterday I also finished putting 60 2"X2"X4" glue blocks in.  They are to give the steps more foundation and to STOP the creaks!  As I finished the last of the 16 I felt like a battery powered tool that needed it's battery recharged!  The good thing was this morning my weight skipped a whole pound and the last number went from a low low 7 to a high 4!!!  Another mountain top experience for sure.  Now maybe I need to fast today so it doesn't go up as I know that it is now in a temporary mode but maybe.  Back to the steps.  As I put in the glue blocks yesterday I found MANY MANY shims so that tells me installing the new risers and treads will be a FUN experience.  Did I really say FUN!  It will be so nice to get rid of the temporary steps next week, I think.  AND I know Terry and I will so enjoy looking at and using new maple steps with glistening new white risers.  In fact we may enjoy it so much we may just have a craft beer and a glass of wine while we sit at the bottom of the steps and admire them.  That is assuming I do a good job of installation.

I have a new plan to make time stand still.  I am going to take the calendar and close it and maybe the days will not pass so fast.  I don't know why I say that as I WANT to get down to FL for the tennis season.  IF I can get some more weight off and keep it off it should improve my game and lessen the chances of getting hurt.

Tomorrow Terry and I will take some time off projects to have lunch with Norma and Wayne.  Norma was Terry legislative assistant (am not sure that is the right term) for the last few years of Terry's term in the MN senate.  They are a special couple and special people so it is always fun to visit.  I still remember several years ago when we went on a bike ride with them.  Wayne said riding was difficult with Norma because she did not go fast enough!  In return Norma said she liked to look at the flowers etc. as they rode.

I took the plunge and ordered a battery powered nail finisher that shots 15 GA nails.  I know it was too much $$ BUT as I dragged the compressor out yesterday, uncoiled the hose, took the house screen off and then dealt with the hose for a few hours I told myself, "Good decision". I have said this before BUT I still can not figure out that darn portable air compressor.  I do NOTHING different but each year, as I move it, the darn thing gets heavier.  There may be something wrong in my shop as the old farm anvil also gets heavier and I think at this time it may not be a good idea for me to move it, or attempt to move it!

No it may be time to sign off as Travis and I are going out for breakfast.  He said he may be here about 8 or so.  One of the perks of being in St. Paul for the summer is seeing Travis and spending time with him.

One of my new things in this life of healthy food is coconut milk creamer for my FP.  I think the verdict is out on rather it improves my FP or not.  I say that and then for sure there is NO way to improve something that is so good already but I think it gives it a tinge of sweetness that I am not sure I like.
