Day 111, "Every picture has a story"
Ronald, Janet, Joan and Dave in maybe 1947 or so. You can see the edge of the shed on the left. What is interesting is beyond them in the background is an open field. I do not know what year Dad and Mom planted trees but as I was growing up that open field was ALL trees. I think at the same time as they planted the trees they planted trees across the road east and also trees along the fence line north beyond the creek.
One thing that comes out in pictures loud and clear is almost ALL the time pictures of us kids show us smiling. I really do not think that is made up. Of course Dad or Mom would say "smile" but really I think, for the most part, it was a very happy childhood. Now when we had to stay on hands and knees while picking weeds in the newly planted trees there may not have been smiles. BUT then again it seems that we always had a way of making work kind of fun.
I don't think I ever asked Mom or Dad about the trees but I suspect they were planted under some kind of government program where the trees were free. Not sure but most likely. In case anyone is wondering as you look at the picture our house was on the left.
Not much news today. Terry and I will leave the house at 12:15, pick up some tennis players and head north to Spring Run community for a 1:00 match. I am playing for the second straight week so I imagine I will not play next Tuesday. The captain wants to give everyone a chance to play and that is good. After all tennis is all about fun---I can't believe I just said that! BIG match for my team tomorrow and it is away.
Terry had 2 appt yesterday and that was about it for our schedule.
Oh yes I did start and finish a book yesterday. It was one of those books that has as it's only value entertainment. James Patterson's "Count To Ten" was the book. In the end the good guys won of course.
I forced myself to fall asleep at 4:20 and the next time I opened my eyes it was 7:00. Wow, that is most unusual but I like it.
No, the FP is completely gone and I need to shave before tennis. On second thought I may look more dangerous if I don't shave. I need to think about that.
