Day 17, "Every picture has a story"
This is happy birthday Grandma Sampson. I do not know most of these women BUT I do know the lady holding the cake is Grandma (Julia) Sampson. Mom being the youngest of many and I was the 5th of 6 so one can understand why I never knew Grandma Sampson. I do not know the year she died but I do, of course, remember Grandpa Sampson. The lady in the dark dress second from the left is Nina who was George Lee's mother. Mom is between Nina and Grandma. I think Aunt Mulla (sp) is behind Mom's right. Mulla was married to Mom's brother Arnold. They farmed near Veblen. One of their sons, Dean, is still living and is in Sioux Falls SD. Bertie should be in the picture and I think she is on Grandma's left. I get the biggest kick out of the lady second from the right. I have NO idea who she is but my guess would be she is kind of old!
An uneventful Sunday. We enjoyed a bit of a cool down in the weather. It should stay below 90 for the rest of the week. On match day, Wednesday, it is supposed to be 88 as we start at 1:30. After talking to a guy on the team I put myself on court #1. I do not feel that I am playing at a court 1 level but it seemed like the best and most honest way to line up the match. I am short several of my best players that I will have in the winter but then I guess other teams are in the same situation. We will "hit off" at 1:30 and have fun. BUT I do like to win!!! My expectations for the fall are not high as I hope everyone stays healthy and has fun. Also I hope that each and every players improves in some aspect of their game. I have been working on my serve and I feel it is coming around to not be a liability. I do not think it is a strength at this point either.
Enough for today. I do have enough FP left for a cup of java after my 7:30 match.
