Day 78, "Every picture has a story"
For sure these pictures bring back memories of chokecherries and more chokecherries. Here Aaron and Travis show off their healthy appetite for those berries. I THINK they did pick some for bringing home. Travis with a plastic bucket on his belt and Aaron with one in his hand picked and ate but not necessarily in that order! The chokecherry stories also go WAY back to Mom driving us kids up to the lake as there were many trees there and also the times Dave and I sat in the red truck eating them as we waited for Dad and the combine to come around and unload. I still can taste cream and bread topped with chokecherry syrup. That could have been a breakfast or lunch or supper. It was delicious any time.
Here we are, Labor Day, and that is kind of the official end of summer. Terry and I will spend the day laboring mostly in the living room with paint etc. Our goal is to have the living room painted by tomorrow. That may give us enough time to also get the back entry done before we head to Jamestown for sibling time. Looking forward to seeing everyone even though it will be a short time. I can already taste the potatoes salad and hear the "remember when" tales.
I learned something this morning. We get our paper everyday and it is usually far from the house and sometimes in the middle of the lawn. Why??? Well as I sat at the computer this morning at 5:00 I saw headlights coming down the street. Both back doors on the van were open and kids were sitting with bagged papers. The van did not even stop. As it rolled down the street the kids just threw the papers on the go. So now I know WHY the papers are all over the place in the morning. I do have to admit that their throw is not bad but they will not do well in baseball try outs!
For many many years this day was the end of summer and I looked towards school tomorrow. Not so for the past several years but for many years it was kind of a sad/happy day. I always looked forward to meeting my new students and seeing my colleagues again and it was also nice to get that bi-weekly pay check. There were also a few years that I sat in the fair parking lot this morning waiting for 6:00 AM so I could go home and sleep. Even though it was the last day of the fair I had to work another night as workers tore down things and often did not get finished until well into Tuesday morning. So tomorrow I would be at the end of 14 nights of 12 hour duty. I can say that the last few nights got longer and longer each night.
I am going to go small FP this morning as I am meeting Cynthia for breakfast at 6:30. As I talk at breakfast I like to have a cup of coffee but as anybody could guess the coffee at most restaurants is FAR below the standards that I like so I need to get some good java before I leave.
Enough for now as the FP is now down to the shell on the turtle on my favorite cup.
