September 2018 we are ready! Day 76, "Every picture has a story" |
- A neighbor lady calling out"Aaron from the Bible" as he walked up the stairs with her paper
- As one can see we received MANY jackets for good service
- John delivering papers before Mom and Dad got up when he was 9
- Aaron helping a naked old lady who was stuck between the tub and toilet!
- Collecting from the thrifty older lady who insisted she get her nickel change from the $10 bill
- Going in one apartment door, walking up the steps to deliver and then up on the roof and over to the other apartment building. It happened until they locked the door! You do not want to know what young boys did on the roof!!!
- Delivering papers in thigh deep snow
- Delivering papers for a week with temps in the -20 range each morning
- Driving west to deliver papers and then driving around to a main street to drive west again as we could not drive east and stop because it was too icy
- Inserting and delivering 300+ Sunday papers
- Getting a free Vic20 computer at the paper party
- Explaining to the lady that it was just WRONG to call in and say she did not get her paper and then get another free paper. She said she just wanted TWO TV guides. When she learned it cost us $$ she finally stopped.
- Waiting and waiting and waiting for the late truck to bring the papers
- Collecting $ from people who supposedly were NEVER home
- RUNNING back to bag papers as the rain started
- Yes there is more and I am sure the kids could share stories that I have maybe never heard
I picked up our last tread for the stairs and have the sealer and second coat of finish on it. It will be installed later today and that means the TREADS are done. I started filling and chalking yesterday and will finish this weekend.
The living room has a start on the painting. It is more cutting in than anything else. With wood at the top of the walls, baseboards, 2 radiators, 2 doorways and 4 sets of windows I estimate there is 330 feet of cutting in before the walls are rolled. We have a ways to go but do have a start. I am hoping that we can finish by Monday and also have the stairs finished. We do want to empty the back entry and paint that but after what we have done it will be a piece of cake. With the stairway finished and the painting finished it will be a matter of waiting for the floors to be done and then moving DAY!!!
As I was looking out the window early this morning I decided I REALLY like the early part of the day. With daylight still dim the lawn looks GREAT. Later when the sun comes up it is only OK, not great. So interesting with the water. I can water and water and the grass pretty much grows at a snail pace and then we get .2" of rain and it grows like crazy. I decided to leave the wire mesh on the small patch of new grass all the time as those darn squirrels like to dig in fresh dirt. I have come to believe they are stupid as I am sure they NEVER find the things they dig and hide.
No, IF I want to get the month off to a good start I need to get on the bike for a short ride, get the breakfast dishes washed, enjoy the last sip of FP and get to work on this first day of the month.
