A look at times past

Ok, I admit this is before HS BUT Travis was all state while playing in HS--here was just the beginning

Life stages--Those high school days!!!
My life stage of the kids high school days is perhaps the most busy and the most on the go that I have ever been.  If one looks at their activites of soccer and basketball I am pretty sure we took in 99% or more of their games which came to 500 +/- some!  There were ups and downs for sure so here are just a few of the ups & downs of the total of 12 years of high school in our lives!  I should add that they are in NO order of good, bad, happy or sad!!!

  • In 1986 John and Travis were in the first state championship team SPA ever had as they won the state while playing in the dome where the Twins played their games.
  • In 1999 Cynthia was on Trinity's basketball team that made it to state.  In the closing 2 minutes of the regional final she made 2 critical shots that kept them in the lead.  I paraphrase coach Milt Sunde, "No Cynthia, oh great shot.  No no yes great shot Cynthia!"
  • In 1991 Aaron was a main stay on SPA's state championship soccer team.
  • During the fall soccer seasons of 86, 87 and 88 John and Travis were instrumental in carrying SPA to 40+ games without a loss.
  • Cynthia's soccer team had an epic battle against giant Edina in the fall of 1998 (I THINK) as David vs Goliath happened.  With little time left David (Trinity School) scored and won in a huge huge upset.  The gal who coached Edina worked at a store in St. Paul, Soccer Express.  She did not go into work for 2 days.
  • and there were heart aches too
  • In Travis' senior year he and Aaron lost in the state championship of soccer.  One of the fathers wrote something about it with the theme "but the next morning the sun came up in the east as usual!
  • SPA BB was doing very well and John had come into his own as a valuable player.  He and some friends traveled to St. Cloud during Christmas break for an indoor soccer tournament.  John came home with a broken finger.  The BB coach was NOT HAPPY.
  • Cynthia's BB team made it to the state tournament but fell flat in their first game.
  • Aaron came home from BB practice one day with TWO front teeth loose.  We were not happy.
I would say we put on 10,000 miles during those high school days going to and from games.  However the school sports were not the only thing happening.  There was Cycling in the summer.  The trusty van took us from Burlington Iowa to Cincinnati Ohio to Kansas City Missouri to Milwaukee and on and on and on.  I did not count but the trips were many and the hours spent in the van were more than I really want to count!
So the high school years seemed to last forever and then they went so fast!  Good time for sure as one knows that you always need to rejoice in the good and keep the negative to the minimum.
My FP is gone and I am ready to dress for 10:30 tennis.
