Our last away match of the fall

An interesting article in the WSJ.  Way way back in the fall of 1968 Gail and I were taking classes and doing work at the School for the Deaf in Devils Lake.  We had two classes each week and one was taught by the school superintendent Mr. Hayek.  At times he would get off subject and talk about the future he saw.  One of the things he talked about was in the future he said we would not see items in the supermarket marked with a price but rather the price would be scanned at checkout.  Has anyone seen that?  Another thing he said was at some time down the road we would not see cash.  Everything would be paid for by credit card or some other method.  At the time I did NOT have a credit card!  In this story it gives the example of a son working for his dad and getting $50 for the work.  When his dad offered the cash the son said he did not want it.  He wanted his dad to pay him with an ap on his phone!  Now Mr Hayek shared his idea some 51 years ago but it seems that he was not far off if at all.  I see many people paying at stores with their phone.  Not sure I want to do that but maybe it is the future NOW.

We have our last away match of the fall.  Next week is our final match and it is home.  Again I am short handed today.  I have two of my best players not here and a member of the 2.5 team playing on court 3.  We played Breckenridge once this fall and lost all 3 courts and I would not be surprised to see that again.  It would be nice if we could win 1 or 2 courts.  I do not know if other teams have the issue that I have which is people tending to leave for Thanksgiving and come back after Christmas.   Anyway, win or lose this fall has been an UP as far as team play.  I would say at least 3 of my players are playing at a level higher than last spring.  I took a half hour lesson this morning and I feel my level of skill is better than last year.  Not sure that will show up on the court today but we will see.

Our weather is very nice for this time of the year.  I did not look at the temp this morning but I am guessing as I took my lesson at 8:30 it was upper 60s.  Kind of perfect for tennis.

I think some of our oranges are almost ready for picking.  In the last years I have been here I have never seen so many oranges.  I am guessing there are 50+ on the tree.

I was able to get off a few of our Christmas cards on Monday BUT it is interesting as we have not received one yet.  I am guessing one of two things.  Either the late Thanksgiving has affected getting out cards OR people just don't  like us any longer.  We will see what happens over the next few days!

Here it is almost 10:00 AM and I have to decide what to do about eating.  With a 12:30 match it just is hard to know when or what to eat.  My FP is on its last sip so I am good there.  Maybe some protein about 11:00 is what I will do and then mix a powdered drink which will be drank about an hour before the match.  I am playing with a team mate who I played with last week and we did not play well so today will be interesting.

Enough for now.
