Day 80, "Every picture has a story"
THE piano has a long long long interesting history. Here are some points:
- We purchased it from a farmer who remodeled his home and it no longer fit into the house. I do not remember how we got it home as it weighed several hundred pounds.
- I asked several deaf students to help me get it up to our second floor space on campus at the North Dakota School for the Deaf. After tugging and pushing by many kids it was up stairs which led to our home with 12 foot ceilings. I was called into the superintendent's office the next day and called on the carpet for using students in that situation. Of course I should have known better but I was YOUNG!
- As we loaded EVERYTHING into the moving van in October of 1977, moving from Devils Lake to St. Paul, it was the last to go in as it was HEAVY. Well it tied for last place with the freezer full of frozen food!
- The people who we purchased 2094 Niles Ave from allowed us to move things into the house early, all except the piano which we had to put in the garage as Tom Ruth said our piano was too heavy to be in the house!
- Over a year, 1978, I replaced all of the keys as you can see there were many many that were broken or missing! My radio arm saw was a life saver.
- Then in 1978/79 I refinished the entire piano to a lighter finish. All it required was a mountain of elbow grease and a ton of patience.
- When we had the piano tuned in St. Paul the guy said it was the heaviest piano he had ever seen!
- Sometime around 2005 we gave it to the Obergs and we purchased a smaller piano.
- Several years later the Obergs gave it to Cynthia and Mike where it currently lives.
- Of course some of the kids took piano lessons while we had it.
- End of story for the piano. We put much effort, much elbow grease and a small amount of money into it's history!!!
Not much on the agenda for today. I did play tennis this morning at 7:30. I actually had a victory as I did not get up until 6:20. Usually it is 5 or earlier. That meant no breakfast or FP until after the match. Norm and I were on the short end of the score today but as Norm would say, "We had fun!" I may not be so kind. No no I had fun too!
I had breakfast and finished my FP when I came home at 9:15. Maybe, just maybe, I need to look at the garbage disposal today. Well looking at it may not help, maybe replacing it is a better idea. Let me see, it is 10:45, is it too later to start it today??? FP is history another day!
