Day 53, "Every picture has a story"
These guys would be called the "Cayuga Kids" and the range of talents, skills and intellect would range from one side to the other side of what ever. Names like Marvin, Greg, Joey, Jack, Jim, Pete, Larry etc sprinkled the teacher's grade book. I should add that there would have been a WIDE range of grades in that book as well! Today their ages would range from 72-68. I do not know if there was something about Cayuga but many of these guys are not with us today. I know of at least 6 who have died. In this day and age that seems strange that about 50% of the guys did not live to the age of 70. The same could be said of a group of girls where 4 of 6 girls died before the age of 62. I know not much of what the boys did in adult life but I do know there are/were educators, pharmacist, and "jack of all trade guys. This picture is of the Scout troop activity. Some of the guys are showing how they earned their "knot tying" merit badge. I have to admit that in the scout troop I often thought the behavior and the activities were a bit childish! By the dress you can know that nobody came from a RICH family!!!
Well my team went down to defeat on all 3 courts yesterday but there were several bright spots. We had to forfeit court 3 but I had a nonteam guy play so guys did not have to sit. They took the match to a tie breaker and the nonteam guy just had a fantastic time. It actually made the whole day worth while. We also lost court 2 and court 1 but made a good showing on both. Our opposition was good and they did say that both their courts do play in a 3.5 league on Fridays. The guys who defeated us on court 1 said they win about half their courts in the 3.5 league. All in all it was a fun afternoon. We play again this afternoon and I know there is hope and expectations that we will do well today. After today we have one match left and then the fall is history. Then it will be hurry up and wait for the winter league which begins in mid January.
It is supposed to be a bit cool today. We have been playing afternoon matches in the 80s but today it is supposed to be about 66 which is PERFECT for playing. Must be a cool front that has come in.
Not much more today. I have enjoyed an early breakfast and the FP is down to the last drop. It is off to spent a bit of time watching at the courts and then come home to finish my book before the afternoon match. The book, which is titled "The Female Persuasion" written by Meg Wolitzer is a good read and it will be very fun to see what the critic says in our Saturday PM lecture on the 15th.
