Here is Terry at our 60th national park. We stopped on our trip from Madison to South Bend. It is on the south shore of Lake Michigan. It became a national park in February of this year. One more national park to go and we have been to all. The last one is the Arch in St. Louis and we will get to that one in the near future. Terry has been to the Arch and I have too but not since it became a national park.
There is just too much to say about the last week. I will summarize a bit. We departed from St. Paul Saturday the 28th of September. We spent a day and two nights in Madison WI, a day and two nights in South Bend IN and a day and two nights in PeachTree City GA before landing in Naples last night about 9:00. There is a lot to say but will save much of it for the days ahead. Perhaps the highlight of the trip, for Terry, was visiting her grandkids in GA. She surprised them with a gift and Terry delighted in their response. It was fun to see. We spent time with grandkids on my side Ruby, Leo, Henry, Liam, Audrey and Elspeth and with grandkids on Terry's side Sam, Zach and Josh. Josh is a sophomore in college in Milledgeville GA which is southeast of PeachTree City. It was only an extra 100 miles to visit him yesterday as we traveled towards Naples. It was a great visit. In my mind I had fun comparing college in 1966/1967 to college in 2019/2020. Oh my the difference is stark and certainly a wake up call if one questions if times have changed much!!!
We had MANY people wish us a SAFE trip and it turned out to be that but we did have a couple of traveling close calls that we felt turned out fine because of the well wishes and prayers. In Indiana we were traveling in the left lane at 70 MPH when a van driver decided to come into our lane. Of course he did not see us. As his van inched close to us and I veered towards the ditch I layed on the horn and he finally turned back into his lane as I stared down at the ditch. Close, way too close. Then in Tennessee we can onto a car that had spun around in the middle of the highway and sat 90 degrees to traffic. I was able to slow down and then inch past and stop. Terry dialed 911 and within a few minutes help arrived. We were a bit beyond the accident so we headed out again but there was very little traffic behind us for a long time as I am sure the backup was long long.
It is our first morning here and I am already into the "normal". I have my FP, which I missed on our trip and I am looking forward to breakfast. I do need to go to Publix as we have little or no food in the house now. Aaron made me FP in Madison, John/Mary have a great coffee maker and the coffee in PeachTree City was very good but there is nothing like MY FP with a tiny spoon of heavy cream in to make it go down smoothly.
Enough for today. I am off to the store and then will have breakfast. After that I may check the tires on the bike and visit the tennis courts. Of course there is much to do with unpacking the car and that will happen today also. Getting everything put away--that will take more than a day!
